SEND

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS

Where a child is encountering difficulties we will support the child, in the first instance, using the resources of the classroom.  This may involve:

  • Using different teaching approaches or materials
  • Creating more individual time for the child
  • Changing the classroom organisation
  • Informal discussion with parents

For many children this will be sufficient to overcome their difficulties.  Where there continues to be a cause for concern the class teacher will seek support from the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo).  The SENDCo is also able to seek advice from support services which include:

  • Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS)
  • The County Psychological Service (EP)
  • Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)
  • Community Paediatrician
  • Occupational therapy

This is done in consultation with the child’s parents.

Copies of SEND related policies can be found under the tab 'Our School- Policies'

DISABLED ACCESS

Access to school is via the main entrance and adaptations are made to classroom doorways when needed.  There is a toilet for disabled users.

ABLE, GIFTED AND TALENTED CHILDREN

Some children have a special need because they are more able in all or a particular area of the curriculum. There are a range of strategies, which the school uses to help meet these particular children’s special needs, including discussing provision with parents.  In addition, able children from the local infant schools regularly meet to take part in enrichment activities. Some of our Golden Time clubs are by invitation to encourage more able children to work together and challenge their critical thinking and/or area of strength.
