Handwriting

In Nursery, the main focus is on developing children’s core strength and gross and fine motor skills to give them the physical foundations they need for writing in Reception.

In Reception, your child is taught handwriting as part of their daily phonics lesson and letter formation is introduced throughout the year.

In Year 1, the letters taught previously are consolidated and children are encouraged to form them correctly on narrower lines, sitting them neatly on the line with clear ascenders and descenders.

In Year 2, children are introduced to a cursive handwriting style.
