At Woodlands we want you to have the opportunity to explore many different things and believe that music is an excellent platform to support with this. We will encourage you learn through song, rhythm and rhyme as well as exploring different instruments in school. We hope to be able to offer you more musical opportunities in school and your teachers are learning more about music in order to support you to understand it better too! We want you to be encouraged to listen to a variety of genres, experiment with a wide selection of instruments and find the areas of music you love best!

'Music is all around us. It is the soundtrack to our lives. Music connects us through people and places in our ever-changing world. It is creative, collaborative, celebratory and challenging. In our schools, music can bring communities together through the shared endeavour of whole-school singing, ensemble playing, experimenting with the creative process and, through the love of listening to friends and fellow pupils, performing. The sheer joy of music making can feed the soul of a school community, enriching each student while strengthening the shared bonds of support and trust which make a great school.'

That statement is from the DfE model music curriculum, and it perfectly sums up the attitude towards music at Woodlands.  Music brings all of us together and is accessible by all, it encourages collaboration, listening skills and creativity. We follow a scheme called 'Kapow' here. It breaks the learning down into key skills and it covers transferrable ideas as the children learn about key aspects of music that can be applied to any instrument or concept.

At Woodlands we believe in fostering skills for the future, and this is reflected in how we teach music as a whole school. We hope that all children here enjoy a fun, creative and collaborative learning environment.
