School Uniform

At Woodlands, we are proud of our uniform and ask that parents support our request for all children to wear the full school uniform.  We believe a smart uniform plays a key role in:

  • Promoting the ethos of our school
  • Providing our children with a sense of belonging and identity
  • Setting an appropriate tone for education in our school

Uniforms can be purchased from:

  • Monkhouse – 1 Mel Square, Solihull Town Centre, B91 3AZ, 0121 733 1456
  • Concept School Wear – 1556 Stratford Road, Hall Green, Birmingham, B28 9HA, 0121 439 6540
  • Tesco On-Line (If you purchase from here, Woodlands PTA will receive a commission return of 5%)

Pupils are encouraged to wear a school jumper or cardigan with a Woodlands logo, however plain is acceptable and are available at most supermarkets.

We have quality pre-loved uniform available from our pre-loved uniform rail in school.  All we ask for in return is a donation (whatever is affordable to you) and that you give these items a loving home.

Hair

Hair should be of reasonable length and style, and not coloured.   Long hair should be tied back.  Severe styles are not allowed.  This includes stripes shaved into hair.  All hair accessories should be reasonable in size, plain and coloured blue, white or black.  Headbands should be simple, narrow and preferably made from material.

Make up

Make-up is not appropriate for school and should not be worn. This includes nail varnish, which should be kept for weekends, holidays and special occasions.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery to school. The exceptions to this are stud pierced ear-rings or items of a religious nature.   To ensure our pupils and staff members have the safest experience in their PE lessons, jewellery must be removed or covered.  Younger children may struggle to remove and replace earrings themselves.  In this case, it is advisable for them not to wear earrings on PE days.  Covering earrings with micropore tape gives a perception of safety but it isn’t recommended.  If you choose to cover your child’s ears, this must be done before school.  Staff will not be able to remove earrings or cover them for children.   If you choose to ignore this rule and your child is wearing earrings on a day when PE is timetabled for their class, you will be contacted to come into school and remove them. This is because PE is part of the National Curriculum and we have a duty to ensure that your child takes part in the lesson.

We accept that piercings take time to heal and this can be up to 6 weeks. We would therefore always advise that if a pupil is considering piercing their ears, this is undertaken at the beginning of the summer holidays so as to maximise healing time.

Watches

If your child can tell the time or is learning to tell the time, they may wear a plain wristwatch.  Due to safeguarding reasons, we ask that no smartwatches or fitbits are worn.

Personal mobile devices

As there is no legitimate use for personal mobile devices (including mobile phones, smartwatches and fitbits) on school premises or during school visits, pupils may not bring them to school or use them for any purpose whilst on the school premises or visits.

Personal belongings

We cannot be responsible for any loss or damage to valuables and so we ask that children do not bring items into school from home.

Items such as school bags, lunchboxes, clothing etc. must be clearly marked with your child’s name.  There is very little possibility of finding a lost item’s rightful owner amongst so many children unless it is clearly named.  Where we do find named items, we will endeavour to get these back to the owner as quickly as possible.   Items that are not named are stored on the shelving in the front entrance.  At times throughout the year, some of these clothes if not collected will be donated or become part of our pre-loved uniform.
